Database Administrator

SUMMARY

Assists with the design, implementation, maintenance, and repair of databases for multiple complex, enterprise-level development programs.  Duties include assisting the Database Administrator with the development and design of database strategies; monitoring and improving database performance and capacity; data recovery; planning for future expansion and conversion, coordination and implementation of security measures to safeguard organizational databases; implementation and release of database changes as submitted by the development team, and general administrator support.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitors databases to optimize database performance, resource use, and physical implementations of databases; addresses a variety of database integration issues including migration between disparate databases, integration, maintenance/conversion, capacity planning issues, and new applications.
  • Monitors and maintains database security and database software, in cooperation with data security administrators.
  • Maintains availability and integrity of databases through multiple access schemes; facilitates sharing of common data by overseeing proper key and index management and data dictionary maintenance.
  • Evaluate and recommend testing and evaluation of new procedures, software, and hardware.
  • Monitors and manages database backups, logs, and journals; installs, maintains, and upgrades database software; restores and/or recovers data as required.
  • Provides advice to applications programmers in the effective use of database languages; advises on troubleshooting, exception processing needs, and other data management issues.
  • Work with System Administrators to plan and allocate storage and other system resources related to database placement and performance.
  • Review database design and setup to ensure that new or modified data bases meet acceptable database standards.
  • Creates, procures and maintains various database related documents such as manuals and programmers handbooks.
  • Provide on-call support.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree; at least 6 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
  • Fluent in French and English.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Two (2) years’ experience as a Database Administrator, monitoring, administering, and implementing performance tuning on database systems, as well as experience in database performance optimization, developing/changing database indices, redesigning database structure and reloading data into a database;
  • Two (2) years of experience with Oracle RAC 11Gr2, 12C;
  • One (2) year of in-depth experience with performance tuning, Index management.
  • One (2) year of experience in relevant database design, development, implementation, test and documentation;
  • Unix/NT operating system training or equivalent.
  • Shell scripting experience.
  • Working knowledge on writing Procedural language (PL/SQL) knowledge and experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, or a computer-related field.
  • In lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree, an additional four (4) years of relevant experience can be substituted.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and leadership to professional personnel in area of expertise.
  • Ability to Install and troubleshoot HA solution such as Always On (Clustering, Availability Groups), Mirroring, Log Shipping and Replication.
